ACDR Audio Compact Disk Recorder
A CD recording/writing component which connects to existing audio sources and makes CD-R disks compatible with all CD players.

BluetoothBluetooth
A wireless personal area network(PAN) technology from the Bluetooth Special Interest Group, Founded in 1998. Bluetooth is an open standard for short-range transmission of digital voice and data between mobile and desktop devices.

CD-RWCompact Disk Rewritable
A rewritable CD-ROM technology. CD-RW drives can also be used to write CD-R disk s, and they can read CD-ROMs.
Initially known as CD-E(for CD-Erasable), a CD-RW disk can be rewritten a thousand times.

CDMACode Division Multiple ACCESS
A technology for digital transmission of radio signals between, for example, a mobile telephone and a radio base station, dividing a frequency into several codes.

CDTColor Display Tube
Similar to a color picture tube, but the phosphors are much smaller, the resolution is higher, and the image is sharper.

CPTColor Picture Tube
A component of a television which boils off electrons from a cathode at one end, and accelerates them towards a grid at the other end to create a color picture.

CRTCathode Ray Tube
Move an electron beam back and forth across the back of the screen, lighting up phosphor dot and illuminating active portions of the screen.

DABDigital Audio Broadcasting
Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB) is an audio broadcasting system that enables the transmission not only of CD-quality audio, but of characters, images and video. The industry standard is Eureka-147.

DLPDigital Light Processing
Digital Light Processing (DLP) is a technology used in projectors and video projectors. DLP projects images by using reflections from microscopically small mirrors, which results in a more efficient use of light, and provides higher brightness than a transmissible LCD that is illuminated by a light source from behind. Also, all DLP controls are processed digitally, which enables a higher resolution than the LCD type. DLP is becoming a major influence in the market because its single-layer structure makes it easier to miniaturize products.

DMBDigital Multimedia Broadcasting
Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (DMB) provides a data or video service with CD-quality audio via mobile devices in a fixed location or while on the move. It is classified into satellite DMB and terrestrial DMB, based on the means of transmission.

DSPDigital Signal Processor
A Digital Signal Processor (DSP) is a specialized microprocessor designed specifically for digital signal processing. In order to process digital signals effectively, DSP adopts a circuit that processes loop operations at high speeds.

DTSDigital Theater System
In addition to providing 5.1 discrete channels of audio, the Digital Theater System (DTS) is the audio standard to which sound effects in movie theaters are added. Most DVDs come equipped with DTS, but some older DVDs do not support DTS. In order to realize DTS properly, a player with DTS audio capabilities and a DVD with DTS must be used.

DVDDigital Versatile Disk
A family of optical disks. DVDs are also double sided, whereas CDs are single sided. It is expected to become the next CD-ROM and primary digital movie medium, superseding Video CDs, analog Laser Disks and eventually VHS tape.

Dolby DigitalAC-3
AC-3, which is the third version of Audio Coding by Dolby Laboratories, Inc., is the standard for digitally compressing up to 5.1 discrete channels of audio. Currently, Dolby Digital is used more often than AC-3.

EPGElectronic Program Guide
An Electronic Program Guide (EPG) displays broadcast program schedules on a digital TV screen via data broadcasting that uses vacant frequency bands or empty channels. Viewers can use the EPG service with their remote control, and are provided with information about programs scheduled for the next few days. After viewers select the programs, EPG will provide more detailed program information than can be obtained from newspapers.

ESNElectronic Serial Number
An Electronic Serial Number (ESN) is a unique identification number that is allocated to each CDMA mobile phone. The ESN is used to communicate between CDMA mobile phones and base stations. Sometimes this number is illegally duplicated, allowing a second phone to use the same ESN. To prevent such illegal activities, extra precautions are undertaken when authenticating a phone.
